The Literary Life of Janet S. Kleinman

Don't know what happened to November except that we had a wonderful Thanksgiving in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with Daughter Dawn, son-in-law and two beautiful granddaughters. Arrived there after having been interviewed by Stuart Vener on on his syndicated show,  Tells It Like It Is, that reaches over a 100 stations in and around Los Angeles and Tampa, Florida. It remains as a podcast on his website.

I'm sharpening my interviewing skills and the story of FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, When Love and Nature Collide  sounds more exciting. Let me know what you think.

Here comes my once-a-month letter to all my readers.

Pleased today that the Sun Sentinel thought my "lifetime achievement award" from the Brooklyn College Alumni Association was worthy of a mention in the Author Notes column of the October 6th Books page of the Lifestyles section of the newspaper. Each of the winners was awarded a beautiful official certificate and  a large button that showed how we looked when we entered the college over fifty years ago.

I'm sure the nominating committee considered more than my bio and was swayed by the recent  romantic thriller, FLIRTING WITH DISASTER. It's fiction, so those of you who see "me" in the story have a fruitful imagination. Enjoy.

PS.. I'm doing a book signing on Monday, October 28th at the Deerfield Central Plaza Library in Deerfield, Florida. Wish you could be there.

BROOKLYN COLLEGE AWARD

Sunday, September 22, I received a lifetime achievement award from Brooklyn College, my alma mater, at a post 50th Alumni Awards Ceremony and Luncheon. My mentor introduced me and added the publication of FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, a recent romantic thriller, to a list of other collateral publications and interviews of reknowned movers and shakers. I was so proud and so was my daughter who snapped some good photos I hope.

All the pomp and circumstance was followed by a lovely repast on white tablecloths adorned with bouquets of roses.

I was glad I had flown up from Florida, because I will always love New York City. It is because of the largess of the City Universities that I, and others, developed into an educated, poised class and succeeded in our careers. Free tuition enhanced a whole generation who otherwise would not have risen to the heights and prominence they have. The other winners were just as appreciative as me.

I enjoyed the theatre, the restaurants, Zabar's, the trip to see my new niece in Dumbo (Down Under the Brooklyn Bridge), the walk down Broadway. I will always love New York, although I've written a novel about Haiti.

Now, back to writing.

Tomorrow night I'm being interviewed by Hollywood Lee (lookatmecasting@gmail.com. Time 7:30pm.. I'm a little excited as I am also preparing for my trip to New York and my award for lifetime achievement from the Alumni of Brooklyn College, CCNY. Almost sure that FLIRTING WITH DISASTER had something to do with me being  ultimately chosen. Tell you about it next week.

It's a great Wednesday morning! I've been invited to be interviewed for another podcast by Hollywood Lee in mid-September 18th. Time in the evening o be determined. Also getting ready to go to NYC where I shall see old friends and enjoy my favorite city with my daughter. Thanks Brooklyn College for giving me this opportunity and honor. You gave me a great education 50+ years ago.

Sally, a reader called yesterday. She has had FLIRTING WITH DISASTER as an e-book for several months, and finally read it. Loved it, loved it and will continue to recommend it to her friends. I'm a lucky author.

ps. Waiting to hear about my bridge score last night. I made a grand slam and I don't often do that.

Happy Labor Day!

Just got back from Ashville, North Carolina. What a beautiful place, what good mountain music, original jewelry, crafts like pottery, hand-woven fabrics, and an art show made of giant statues made from legos.
Then on to Chapel Hill to wish our oldest granddaughter lots of luck as she heads for college. It seems like she was born yesterday.

Back to working on a draft of a second novel, GOODBYE RUSSIA, HELLO AMERICA.(tentative title).

Time to prepare for my September weekend in New York City. I am being honored for  lifetime achievement by the Alumni of Brooklyn College at its annual luncheon. I'm thrilled. I hope they mention
"FLIRTING WITH DISASTER," the romantic thriller that celebrates its first anniversary.

Have you read it yet.

Regards,

Janet S. Kleinman
